Take the register on the night

Availability tells you who said they were coming. The register tells you who actually turned up. They are related, but they are not the same thing.

When it appears

The register control shows on an event's page once the event has started. Not before — there is nothing to record until the night is under way.

Only admins see the register. Everyone else sees their own row on their own profile (response reliability and attendance), and nobody else's.

Taking it

Open the event. The register lists every active member, in section order, with a small row of buttons per player:

• Here — turned up
• Late — turned up, but after start time
• Missing — didn't come, and hadn't said why
• Exc. — didn't come, and had told you why

Tap a status per player. Each row saves the moment you tap. There is no Save button and there is no draft state.

Alongside each name is a small note of what they said in advance — "said yes", "said maybe", "no reply" — so you can spot the person who said Yes and did not show without hunting. Fill from replies at the top does the obvious thing in one tap: everyone who said Yes goes to Here, everyone who said Can't goes to Missing. Correct the exceptions individually.

After the night

A player's attendance score on their profile reflects the last twelve months, weighted so a recent absence carries more than an old one. It also distinguishes:

• Attended — Here or Late
• Excused — didn't come, and had told you why
• No-show — said they would come, didn't turn up, didn't say

That last one is the one you actually care about. The other two are life, and everyone has some.

Fixing a mistake

Register entries can be changed after the fact — tap the row again and choose the corrected status, or Clear to undo the row entirely. Corrections update the attendance score straight away.

What the register is not

• Not automatic. BandHQ does not check anyone in for you. The register is a human record of what an admin saw.
• Not visible to other members. A player only ever sees their own record.
• Not a disciplinary tool by itself. It is a record. What the band does with a pattern of no-shows is between the committee and the player, and the app has no view on that.
